When Revie Sylviana, Global Partnerships Director for Southeast Asia at Meta, touched down in Ho Chi Minh City, it wasn’t the modern skyline that left the biggest impression, it was how people connect: energetic, open, and constantly on their phones. Even on weekdays, crowds linger around the Opera House late into the night. They’re not just online but truly connected.

Revie’s visit to Vietnam was to attend Meta AI Wonderland, an event bringing together content creators to explore Meta’s latest AI innovations. It also gave her a deeper appreciation for Vietnam’s tech-forward culture — one that’s helping position the country as a rising star in Southeast Asia’s technology landscape.

A Mobile-First Society Ready for AI

Vietnam is one of the most mobile-friendly nations in the world. Unlike many other countries, people here, from teens to seniors, use smartphones as their main devices for accessing the internet, staying social, and getting work done. This makes Vietnam the perfect environment for Meta’s mobile-first products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

It also sets the stage for AI innovation. According to a 2023 internal survey by Meta, 73% of Vietnamese users said they’re comfortable interacting with businesses via AI chatbots. It’s a surprisingly high number that reflects an openness to adopting new technologies.

To Meta, Vietnam is more than just a high-potential market. As Vietnamese users actively support the platform, providing early identification of trends, technological advancements, and product feedback, making them among the best creators to work with. It's an ideal testing ground where users aren’t hesitant, but rather eager to explore.

Meta AI Wonderland: Where Tech Meets Creators

Revie’s trip coincided with Meta AI Wonderland, an exclusive initiative to introduce new AI tools to the creator community. Attendees learned how to create AI-powered characters through Meta’s AI Studio, and were guided on how to weave their brand identity into these virtual personas — opening the door to new ways of monetizing creativity.

The event also doubled as a feedback forum, where Meta collected insights from creators on everything from user experience to new feature ideas. It showcased Meta’s broader strategy: not just building AI for users, but building AI with them.

Turning AI Into A Creative Partner

In the past, Meta’s AI mostly operated behind the scenes, powering content recommendations, personalized ads, and user suggestions. But that’s changing.

Now, AI is front and center. With the launch of Meta AI, a smart virtual assistant integrated into Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, users can now search for information, get help brainstorming, or simply chat. All is free and easy to access.

Powering this is Llama, Meta’s open-source large language model. The newest version, Llama 4, has already surpassed one billion downloads globally. Notably, Vietnamese is one of the first supported languages. This is a clear sign that Meta sees Vietnam as a strategic priority in its global roadmap.

Creators can also use AI Studio to build custom virtual characters, from their appearance to the way they talk. Whether you're an educator, lifestyle vlogger, or comedy creator, you can craft a unique alter ego that reflects your own voice and personality.

And Meta isn’t stopping there. Coming soon:

  • Ray-Ban smart glasses with real-time voice and video AI responses
  • Automatic AI translation to help Vietnamese content reach global audiences
  • A new video editing app called Edits — a “studio in your pocket” for creators on the go

Now, Meta AI boasts over 700 million monthly users, and the company is aiming for 1 billion by the end of 2025. Vietnam’s creator community is expected to be one of the key drivers of that growth.

Revie stresses, however, that AI isn’t here to replace human creativity. It’s here to enhance it. Whether you’re drafting ideas, editing scripts, or preparing brand proposals, Meta AI is designed to save time, boost output, and help creators focus on what makes their content truly original.

When The Tools Are Ready, All You Need Is Courage

As she wrapped up her conversation with Vietcetera, Revie left with a message that wasn’t just about tech. It was about mindset: “My suggestion is to start early rather than perfecting the ideas.”

Today, the tools are already in creators’ hands, from AI Studio and Meta AI to built-in assistants on Instagram and the soon-to-launch Edits app.

Vietnam doesn’t just stand out for its massive user base or screen time. What truly sets the country apart is its willingness to try new technology from day one.

And Meta? They’re ready to walk side-by-side with creators, not just as a platform, but as a trusted tech partner. With Meta’s support, Vietnamese creators are now in a unique position to shape how AI intersects with culture, content, and connection.

Because as Revie puts it, it’s not about how many tools you have. It’s about whether you’re brave enough to start, experiment, and grow.
